While HCG diets may be a hot weight loss regimen being used by celebrities and average people alike to obtain fantastic weight loss and more specifically, fat loss while sparing lean muscle tissue, HCG diets is really nothing new.

In fact, the HCG diets can be traced back to the 1950’s when Dr. A.T.W. Simeon discovered that the pregnancy hormone, HCG, could be used to bring about loss of abnormal fat stores in obese adults.

A controversial weight loss program
HCG diets have been quite controversial. With its strict, very low calorie diet (500 calories) that must be followed, and the injected or oral hormone, HCG that must be taken daily, the HCG diet has never been short on detractors. But the proof is in the results.

When people follow Dr. Simeons’ protocol to the letter, they take daily HCG injections or the oral HCG drops by mouth twice a day, take a vitamin B12 supplement and follow the diet plan, they lose weight along with a significant, visually noticeable fat loss.

But one of the more controversial aspects of the HCG diets is the fact that one can lose weight without exercise. Despite the fact that it goes completely against conventional wisdom, according to Dr. Simeons’ protocol, there is no exercise required or recommended while on the HCG diet.

Lose weight without exercise?
You might wonder then, how someone can lose weight when following HCG diets without exercising. The reason is that the HCG circulating in the bloodstream sends a message to the brain to start releasing the abnormal fat stores, which the body holds on to because it is a potential source of energy and nutrition. As these fat cells are liberated and burned, the body is able to access that fat and use it for fuel and nutrition. This gets them through the day without feeling as weak and lethargic as they might otherwise feel trying to get by on only 500 calories a day.

So, normally on a diet you are expected to exercise for five or six days per week in order to burn off those excess calories, and create new, lean muscle fiber which will consume fat for fuel. The beauty of HCG diets is that those fat stores are being burned without you needing to go to the gym and lift weights, or spend hours on the treadmill or elliptical machine.

When you follow the HCG diet plan, you will lose the weight and the fat first while sparing your lean muscle that often gets burned on severe calorie restricting diets. After you have successfully lost the weight that you want to lose, you can resume exercise in order to maintain your weight loss.

While it might be a challenge to deal with the limited calories and the daily injections or drops, keeping your mind on how you will look and feel when you have achieved your goal weight should help you stick with HCG diets until the end.
